Winter in Wisconsin is many things. Cold, harsh, white, long. Wisconsin photographers see a little more in a Wisconsin winter. Photographers see beauty in the season. Snow and ice present challenges to a photographer but the reward can be a unique take on a common subject or dramatic beauty in the finer details of winter. Capture Wisconsin photographers have captured winter in an amazing light. Settle in with a hot cup of coffee (or tea) and enjoy Bringing in the Year through the eyes of Wisconsin photographers as hand-picked by our editors.

Lovely pastel colors. Great job with exposure. Horizon visible through window is a wonderful detail that really makes the image come alive. See comment

Cold Flow
This shot was taken at Redstone Lake. I was on my way back from a winter hiking trip and thought I'd stop and see if it would make for a nice photo opportunity. I was all alone shooting this fast moving waterfall and enjoyed every minute.

Sunny Days
Finally made it out for a few minutes before the sunrise to take some pics. It was pretty beautiful out....and a little cold. Nikon D5000 Lens: 1970s Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5 Post Processing done in Lightroom 3/Photoshop CS5

Snow Bunny
Walking through Milwaukee's Third Ward the day after Christmas and is was snowing pretty good. We spent most of the time wondering around in the alley ways looking for interesting things to shoot. I had a few other better composed shots but I was having trouble focusing through the snow so they came out blurry.

Frosty
"Winter came down to our home one night Quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow, And we, we were children once again." ~Bill Morgan, Jr. This is my dad! :) He had just finished snow blowing the driveway up in West Bend, WI on a COLD winter morning last December. I live in Texas, and watched from the window until I came outside to snap this photo of him.

When picking a photographer to showcase for A Wisconsin Winter, we didn't have to look hard to find Bob Israel. His winter photography is some of the best you'll ever see. It's no wonder he's one of Capture Wisconsin's most followed photographers. One peek at his profile and you'll surely follow him as well.
Bob has been a Capture Wisconsin member since December 20th and has contributed more than 60 photos for all of us to enjoy. Thanks, Bob. Keep up the great work!
