Metal & Glass Lines
This is a section of the Milwaukee Art Museum. Here is where the moveable 217-foot wings of the sunscreen meet the 90-foot high glass roof. As the afternoon sun passed through the steel fins it created streaks across the glass. The contrasty mix of color, stripes and angles, and confusion between what was real and what were reflections is what intrigued me.

Davidson Windmill at sunset
This windmill is an incredible part of WI history. It was built by Jacob Tapola Davidson in 1904 and he modeled it after his coffee pot. The grindstones & structural wood are all local materials, much of it tamarack, shaped by hand. The stones came from the Amnicon Falls area, drawn by horses in winter. Construction took about four years and the mill was used to mill flour and for cracking grain for cattle feed.

Brian calls himself an amateur photographer, but there's no reason to believe he couldn't be a paid professional if he so desired. Some of his architectural and interior photography would look mighty fine on canvas, hung on a wall. Jump into Brian's profile and you'll see why we selected him as the showcased photographer for this theme of architecture and landmarks. Brian has submitted more than 200 photos -- all of which are works of art. His 35+ followers would attest to his quality work. Give Brian's photos a visit, a vote and a love if you'd like. You'll be pleased you did.

Cana Island Lighthouse
This one took a while to get for a number of reasons. It was a pretty busy day for visitors to the Lighthouse, so we had to first wait for nobody to be looking out from the railings at the top of the lighthouse. All clear? check... no not quite, then we had a woman walk into the frame, stand for a few seconds, look at us, walk a few more steps into the frame, begin texting on her phone, walk a few more steps, text some more, have her friends join her, chat for 5 minutes right in front of us, walk a little further to the center of the frame, all turn and look at us waiting to make the frame, chat some more, take a few photos of the lighthouse... and us (happens wherever I go, price of celebrity!) , then finally roll out of the frame, just in time for more people to arrive, but wait we did and we finally got the shot. Its at times like this I wished I had something else to shoot with other than a camera :-) View On White

I got to spend a great day with my dad out shooting, and while we hit a bunch of different locations in the freezing cold today I think our favorite by far was the old Hyde's Mill. Seems like we might not be the only ones who think it's pretty neat.

Baileys Harbour Upper Range Light
After Cave Point and a couple of other minor detours we intended to head for breakfast, but then we noticed that Baileys Harbour had 3 lighthouses... gotta check those out, but not before we'd eaten breakfast! One of them we couldn't get to very easily as it is on an island, the second we found, but were unimpressed. Having found the second we were turning the car around we spotted the third; which you see here. Yes believe it or not this is/was a lighthouse. It is the Baileys Harbor Upper Range Light, it actually has an uglier brother, the lower range light (which I didn't photograph) which sits about 900ft in front of it and is 15ft shorter! The idea being that at night, the sailors could line up the lights, and in the day time, they could line up the buildings. Both lighthouses are now retired and have been replaced by a truly ugly range light that resembles a flashlight on a stick! Historic Fox River Mills
Located on the north bank of the Fox River, the former Fox River Mills is an aggregation of three old paper mill buildings. On the National Register of Historic Places, the brick buildings date from 1883 through 1915. Two of the buildings served as paper converting plants as late as 1985. The buildings are located just two blocks from College Avenue, a short walk to shopping, the Performing Art Center, fine dining, churches, the library, and Lawrence University.
