Morning Sunlight strikes the Old Atlas Dam on the Fox River in Appleton. Temperature at 7 am is a frigid -10F with lots of river smoke.
The Atlas Dam is the top dam of 3 in the Appleton Flats Region.
Stratofortress- "Up, Up & Away"
With 8 Pratt & Whitney TF-33 turbojet engines producing 17,000 pounds of thrust each, this Barksdale AFB LA B-52 has no trouble getting airborne using half of the 8500 ft runway at Oshkosh.
Also a very short flight to Shreveport as far as bomber miles goes......the fuel tanks are way less than half full (pretty light plane at take-off) .
Sparse crowd as take-off was the day after AirVenture. I'm 6000 ft. down Runway 18 as indicated by the Big "6".
A Fast Freight heading up the short grade west of Dale at track speed.
The siding is totally obscured by 14" of fresh snow.

"The Day After" . Winter Storm "Destiny" put down 14" of snow in Western Outagamie County this week..
I happened to catch an empty westbound fracking sand train heading to Western WI to be refilled.

Seems like the "Place to B" for the Doves after the 14" snowfall in Western Outagamie County Monday.

Close to a foot of snow fell in Appleton on Monday.
Engine 736 performed for 3 decades on the Soo Line RR pulling passenger trains at speeds of up to 80 mph. Built by American Locomotive Corporation of NY.

Dam Cold at Seven Below
The Atlas Dam (the first of three in the River Flats area of Appleton) a few minutes after sunrise on Saturday Feb. 9.
Finally a morning with little wind.

Was a bit "off center" trying to get the photo (I'm sure all can relate).
Happened to glance up & see a China Air 747 (air cargo) inbound to Chicago O'Hare (20,000 or so ft up)......missed the "E" in EAA Museum.
